Our Story

Founding
The Chargers Club Soccer team was founded on August 17th, 2011 on the campus of Augustana College. The original founders were led by Dean Burrier Sanchis, who pitched the idea to collaborators Sven Steller, Alvin Fonseca, and Martin L. Skantze, who were fundamental in realizing Burrier's vision for the new Club Soccer Team.

Our Inspiration
The original founders were greatly inspired by the documentary soccer film Pelada, which documented the unglorified matches of the beautiful game that exist all around the world. They felt that creating a club team at Augustana College, seperate from the NCAA Division III Varsity program at the College, would provide a platform to enjoy the game in its purest form, in a forum where anyone could participate and become a part of the action, where the essence of the sport, competition, and team would be manifest. Where a group of has-been's and never-were's could still enjoy the sport they all worship and feel the thrill of competing.

Our Name
The group selected the name "Chargers" after an under-10 years old recreational league team that Burrier Sanchis and Skantze had coached in Spring of 2010. The children had selected the name for their team when given the opportunity to do so by the coaching staff. Burrier Sanchis and Skantze wished to pay homage to those children who demonstrated a pure love for the game by also naming their new team the "Chargers".
